Sand Mountain
![]() |
These alleged “singing” sand dunes did not make any sounds while I was there. Unless you count what the dune buggies and motorbikes made. Pretty disappointing actually. Supposedly there are only a handful of sand formations that make sounds in the world. If anyone has any luck with this I’d love to hear any sound recordings you got.
Other than that, the place is very Tatooine-esque. Me and my friends both got our cars stuck, but being used to getting cars stuck in higher levels of snow, we were out in no time. I was also worried about driving past the place on my way there, but you can see it for miles coming from the west. There is a rocky ridge to the East that may make it harder to spot, but the signage was good too. Its on the North side of the highway, down an unpaved road, which is off of US 50 about 20 miles East of Fallon.
